ALPENA, Mich. (August 19, 2013) – The non-profit Alpena Boys & Girls Club was recently awarded a $1,000 donation through Community Financial’s third annual “Summer of Sharing” program, the credit union proudly announced.
The
Boys & Girls Club of Alpena offers youth ages 6 through 18 a variety of
programs and activities, including a community-wide mentoring program and
community service projects. Their goal is to embrace all, especially those in
need, and to help them become productive, caring and responsible citizens.
“I
was ecstatic that we were given this opportunity, I never thought in a million
years what I had to say was going to impact so much and help kids get an
opportunity to participate in so many different projects,” said Jen Digna, the
club’s program director. The club has had to cut staff and is also in need of
building repairs. “We’ll be
able to use this to provide opportunities for our youth that might not
otherwise have been possible, and we just want to say thanks.”
Community Financial is donating $1,000
every
Monday through Friday until August 30, 2013, to non-profits through the Summer
of Sharing campaign. Nominations can be
made at www.SummerofSharing.org.
“We’re
a community credit union and we feel it’s important for the local community to
have a say in which organizations receive a donation,” said Bill Lawton,
Community Financial Credit Union President/CEO. “Our members are actively
involved in the community and we want to support the charities that are
important to them.”
Summer
of Sharing was first launched in 2011 to help celebrate Community Financial’s
60th anniversary. The popular program is now in its third year.
